Pochettino wants Man United role

According to a recent report from Manchester Evening News, former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is interested in becoming the new manager of Manchester United. The pressure has been notably growing on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over the course of the last few months, to the point where it seems like a matter of when and not if he will be sacked from his position at Old Trafford. However, United are said to have no interest in changing things up at this moment in time, with the popular opinion being that the Norwegian is going to be given the time he needs to turn things around.

Pochettino has been heavily linked with every big managerial position under the sun since being sacked from his position at the club, with Arsenal being one of the primary candidates in th…

Oxford set for permanent Augsburg move

According to a recent report from Sky Sports News, West Ham United youngster Reece Oxford is said to be close to agreeing a permanent move to German club Augsburg. The 20 year old, who made his debut as a teenager back in 2014, has been sent out on loan many times over the last few years. He had spells with Reading and Borussia Monchengladbach before heading over to Augsburg earlier this year, and since doing so, he’s made quite the impression at the club. The academy graduate has a contract at West Ham until 2021 but hasn’t played competitively for them since back in October 2016, which would seem to indicate that the Hammers wouldn’t be too broken up about letting him go.

Oxford also has a handful of caps for the England U20s, having made his debut for them back in 2016…

FC Porto 1-5 Liverpool: Three things as Reds run riot in Portugal

Given what happened on the two previous occasions when these teams met at the Estadio Dragao in Porto, it s not really surprising that Liverpool thrashed Porto again in the second round of the Champions League Group B. One would have, however, expected the home team to have prepared better for an encounter with a well-known opponent.

Be that as it may, Liverpool took the lead through Mohamed Salah in the 18th minute. Just before halftime, Sadio Mane doubled it. Salah struck again on the hour-mark, and 15th minutes later, Mehdi Taremi took advantage of one of the few moments when Porto looked dangerous to give the home supporters some hope. However, Roberto Firmino, who had come on to replace Salah, quickly struck twice to stifle any thought of a late drama and set the final sco…

Prediction: Manchester City vs Olympiacos

Best Odds: 10/11

Bookmaker:

Looking to carry on their 100% Champions League start on Tuesday night, Manchester City will welcome Greek giants Olympiacos to an empty Etihad.

Manchester City

Starting with the hosts, while Manchester City might have struggled to burst themselves out of the traps when opening the new Premier League campaign, the Sky Blues do appear to have found their feet. Managing to come past a resilient Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday lunchtime, Pep Guardiola s side find themselves in the midst of a seven-match unbeaten run across all competitions. Rightfully seen as a landslide favourite to once again book their spot in the knockout stage after their quarter-final heartbreak against Lyon over the summer, the English heavyweights r…

Southgate should rest ´leggy´ Kane against Wales – Shearer

Gareth Southgate should rest Harry Kane for England s final Group B match against Wales, according to former Three Lions captain Alan Shearer.

Kane claimed the Golden Boot after scoring six goals in the 2018 World Cup, becoming the first England player to win the award since Gary Lineker 32 years earlier.

The Three Lions skipper did not register a shot on target in the Three Lions 6-2 thrashing of Iran or the goalless draw with the United States in Qatar.

Shearer thinks Callum Wilson might start instead of Kane against Wales on Tuesday, when Southgate s side will be expected to seal their place in the round of 16.

He said in his BBC column: I am not overly concerned about that statistic [Kane not having a shot on target], because we know the provider role…

Five-star Falkirk still five clear at top of Scottish League One

Falkirk remain five points clear of Hamilton at the top of Scottish League One after both sides enjoyed comprehensive wins in their last games of 2023.

The Bairns cruised to a 5-0 win at home to Stirling Albion as Liam Henderson, Calvin Miller, Ross MacIver, Brad Spencer and Gary Oliver all scored in the first 55 minutes.

Hamilton also found the net five times in a 5-2 win at bottom side Edinburgh City, Kyle MacDonald grabbing an early brace and further goals from Michael Hewitt, Euan Henderson and Kevin O’Hara putting the result beyond doubt after 32 minutes.

Ouzy See and Robbie Mahon at least restored some respectability to the scoreline with second-half goals for the home side.

Edinburgh remain two points adrift of Annan Athletic, who had Tommy Goss …

Republic boss Stephen Kenny hopes to exorcise ghost of Cristiano Ronaldo

Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny will hope to finally exorcise the ghost of Cristiano Ronaldo as he targets a priceless Euro 2024 qualifier victory in Greece.

Kenny will send his troops into Group B battle at the OPAP Arena on Friday evening desperate to open their account at the second time of asking after they lost 1-0 to France in Dublin in their opener.

He will do so still reflecting on the famous World Cup qualifier win over Portugal which was snatched from his grasp by Ronaldo’s late double in September 2021, and game in which Ireland led through John Egan’s header with just a minute of normal time left on the clock.

Asked if he was encouraged by the fact that some of his team’s better performances had come away from home, Kenny replied: “You …

Martinez told Belgium he would be leaving after shock Morocco defeat

Former Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez told his players he would be leaving after the World Cup following their shock defeat by Morocco a result he admits will haunt for me a long time .

Semi-finalists in 2018, the world s second-ranked side suffered a surprise group-stage elimination in Qatar after finishing third in Group F.

The Red Devils struggled past Canada in their opening game before suffering a 2-0 defeat against Morocco, while their premature exit was confirmed by a goalless stalemate with Croatia.

It brought the curtain down on a poor tournament that also saw Martinez and several players forced to dismiss reports of a rift within the squad.

The Spaniard, who subsequently stepped down after six years in the role, also denied rumours of any f…

The 38-year-old winger turned full-back becomes the Toffees’ first summer signing, joining on a free transfer after his contract expired at Aston Villa.

Young has signed a one-year deal at Goodison Park to work under manager Sean Dyche, who was his captain when first breaking through at Watford.

“The manager was important in me signing,” the former England international and Manchester United captain said.

“I know him and know what his passion and desire is like. His honesty, will to work hard and his hunger for the game is second to none.
