Cassano: No Zlatan, no championship for Milan

Milan must sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to end their four-year drought without a Serie A title, according to Antonio Cassano.

Ibrahimovic has been linked to Milan throughout the current transfer window, with club president Silvio Berlusconi claiming the Sweden international would be welcomed back to the San Siro with open arms .

Cassano s two-year stint at the San Siro matched that of Ibrahimovic, and the former reckons Milan cannot win the Scudetto without the latter.

The attacking duo played together at Milan in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, combining for 49 Serie A goals and 39 assists.

Juventus have won the past four Italian championships, and when Cassano was asked which club would be best placed to challenge Massimiliano A…

Bayern to make James Rodriguez deal permanent

Last summer Real Madrid loaned out James Rodriguez to Bayern Munich on a two-year deal, which saw the Bavarians commit to paying Madrid the sum of €13 milllion. Now, , they are willing to make the deal permanent by activating the €42 million option to buy included in the the original loan agreement.

The Colombian attacking midfielder shone in the 2014 World Cup, earning a move from Monaco to Real that summer; but things haven t really gone his way since. Looking for more balance in the team, manager Zinedine Zidane change the default formation from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3 upon his arrival, and this is where Rodriguez lost his place in the starting XI to Brazilian defensive powerhouse Casemiro.

He made a slow start to life at the Allianz Arena, but he soon blended in and no…

Milan 3-2 Hellas Verona: Gunter own goal decisive as Rossoneri roar back

Milan roared back from 2-0 down to beat Hellas Verona 3-2 on Saturday and claim top spot in the Serie A table.

Gianluca Caprari and a penalty from Antonin Barak had Verona heading for an unlikely three points before the home side produced a second-half turnaround.

After Olivier Giroud had headed home a third goal in three league games, Franck Kessie equalised from the penalty spot before Koray Gunter s own goal settled a gripping contest.

22 Milan have gained 22 points in the first eight seasonal games: a record at this point of the season for the Rossoneri since 1994/95 (three poin…

Sevilla president urges fans not to ´insult´ returning Vitolo

Sevilla president Jose Castro has urged fans not to insult Vitolo on Wednesday when he returns to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan with Las Palmas following a contentious transfer.

The Spain international enjoyed four successful years with Sevilla after initially leaving Las Palmas in 2013, but he forced through a permanent departure to Atletico Madrid during the close-season by depositing his €37.2 million release clause at LaLiga s offices, before moving on loan to the Canary Island side as his new parent club serve a player registration ban.

Monaco

Starting with Leonardo Jardim s Monaco side, although they secured their customary second-place finish in Ligue 1 last season, Tuesday s hosts did finish 13 points adrift of bitter rivals PSG and many are worrying that the gulf between the two sides is only widening. Wales 1 Spain 4: Alcacer marks recall with brace

Paco Alcacer scored twice on his Spain recall as Luis Enrique s men cruised to an easy 4-1 friendly win against Wales on Thursday.

The striker s superb performances on loan at Borussia Dortmund earned him a call-up and he continued that form with a first-half brace for his first international goals since 2015.

Sergio Ramos converted a Suso free-kick in between Alcacer s double and Marc Bartra s header wrapped up Spain s scoring as they brushed a lacklustre Wales aside at the Principality Stadium.

With Gareth Bale not fit to play, Ryan Giggs was shorn of his star man and Wales rarely looked like threatening a surprise result, although Sam Vokes did net a late consolation.

Alcacer opened the scoring in the eighth minute on his first international appearan…

Shaw wants new United deal

Luke Shaw has stated that he wants to fight for a new contract over the course of the 2018/19 season, after spending years fluctuating in and out of the Manchester United first team. The Englishman, 23, has had to deal with several setbacks including injuries, poor form and other stars coming into the squad.

Now, however, he seems more determined than ever to make something of himself at Old Trafford. He initially joined the club from Southampton back in 2014 and despite spending more time with United as a professional than he did with the Saints as a professional, he hasn t made as many appearances for the Red Devils as he did on the south coast.

Given his age, it seems fairly safe to suggest that Shaw will have a long and fruitful career in the game at the highest lev…
